Lamine Yamal Says Busquets Warning Changed His Life
Yamal recalled how a stern conversation with Sergio Busquets changed his approach after a suspension on international duty.
Lamine Yamal has revealed how a stern warning from Sergio Busquets prompted him to put football at the centre of his life.
Speaking on Movistar Plus programme Universo Valdano, the Barcelona forward recalled being suspended for three weeks while involved with Spain’s youth national team.
Busquets confronted him as he was heading to train with Barcelona’s first team and asked what had happened on international duty.
Yamal admitted he was “terrified” by the conversation. After hearing his explanation, the former Barcelona captain reminded him that being a recognised player brought responsibilities, telling him “you have to behave”.
The warning had a lasting effect, according to Yamal. He said he stopped going out and dedicated himself fully to football, building his routine around training, matches, rest and visits to his mother.
He described repeating that pattern rather than allowing other activities to distract him from the game.
The account comes from an interview released in September, in which Yamal reflected on the conversation as an important lesson early in his Barcelona career.
His recollection focused on the change that followed the suspension, with Busquets’ intervention providing the push to take his daily routine more seriously.
