Jose Mourinho Jokes ‘I’ll Be 80’ Before Man City Case Is Settled

Mourinho joked about the lengthy process as Manchester City appeal the findings against them, with sanctions still unresolved.

Jose Mourinho has joked that he will be 80 before Manchester City’s financial case reaches its final conclusion.

Speaking to Ivan Zazzaroni in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho suggested that the proceedings and appeals could leave them waiting well into old age.

He said he preferred to laugh about the situation, adding that he and his interviewer, both in their sixties, would need some luck to still be around when the final outcome arrived.

“Now a ruling will come, then an appeal… I’ll be 80,” Mourinho said, in GOAL’s English translation.

The initial findings have already been announced. On September 29, the Premier League confirmed that an independent commission had found City guilty of all charges concerning serious financial rule breaches across nine seasons between 2009-10 and 2017-18.

The commission also upheld three of the four charges relating to the club’s failure to cooperate with the investigation.

City confirmed that they lodged an appeal on October 1. They maintain their innocence and argue that the findings contain material errors of law, principle and fact.

Mourinho’s comment concerned the wait for a final resolution, rather than a confirmed timetable for the proceedings.

The commission’s findings do not settle the punishment. Sanctions are to be addressed separately, while City’s appeal will be considered by an independent appeal board.
