The Luton boss clashed with Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel before players and staff joined the post-match confrontation.

Jack Wilshere had three points secured against Barnsley. Getting through the post-match handshake proved rather less straightforward.

The Luton manager became involved in a heated confrontation with opposite number Daniel Stendel after Tuesday’s 2-1 League One win at Kenilworth Road.

Sky Sports footage shows the managers coming together during the handshake, with Wilshere reacting angrily and pointing towards Stendel before staff intervene.

The disagreement then attracts a considerably bigger audience, as players and coaches from both sides gather around amid pushing and attempts to separate those involved.

“He just grabbed my hand,” Wilshere explained afterwards, describing the confrontation as “just passion” and insisting he respected Stendel and his team.

Stendel also played it down: “It was a misunderstanding between me and Jack Wilshere.”

The pair had already exchanged words following a late Barnsley penalty appeal. Amani Richards went down inside the area but was booked for simulation, with Luton awarded a free-kick.

Earlier, first-half headers from Mads Andersen and Nahki Wells had put the hosts in control before Makenzie Kirk pulled one back for Barnsley.

Luton held on for the victory. Both managers subsequently sounded considerably calmer than they had looked beside the dugouts.
