Jorge Jesus Says He Has ‘Nothing to Say’ After Cristiano Ronaldo Statement

The Portugal coach admitted he had not yet read the captain’s lengthy account of their dispute.

Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus said he had “nothing to say” when questioned about Cristiano Ronaldo’s lengthy statement addressing their dispute.

Jesus was approached by reporters after returning from Leiria, where he had watched Portugal Under-21s secure a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic.

“I was in Leiria watching the Portugal Under-21 national team match,” Jesus said.

“I will read the statement now, and I have nothing to say.”

The brief response arrived after Ronaldo published a detailed account of the events that led to him leaving Portugal’s training camp.

Ronaldo accused Jesus of breaking his word on two occasions, beginning with an agreement concerning the forward’s involvement against Norway.

The 41-year-old said he had expected to play for approximately 30 minutes but remained an unused substitute despite completing an extended warm-up.

Ronaldo also claimed that Jesus later agreed to explain their discussions publicly before the match against Denmark but failed to present the points they had prepared.

The Portugal captain subsequently left the camp, although he apologised for his decision and said he would accept any punishment imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation.

He also made clear that he remained available to represent his country once any potential suspension had been served.

Jesus had previously said the door remained open for Ronaldo to return but maintained that team selection was his responsibility.

His first response to Ronaldo’s account did not address any of the allegations directly. Instead, the Portugal coach said he would need to read the statement before commenting.
