Klopp Interrupts Press Conference to Warn Players About His Hairline

Jurgen Klopp interrupted Jonathan Tah’s press conference to warn Germany’s players that a poor performance against Greece could have serious consequences for his hairline.
Klopp had already completed his media duties at Germany’s training base in Herzogenaurach and handed the room over to Tah when he suddenly returned to the microphone.
“If the boys don’t perform tomorrow, my old receding hairline is going to make a comeback,” Klopp announced before laughing and leaving again.
Tah and the assembled reporters burst into laughter, although the defender offered no immediate explanation for why Germany’s head coach had returned specifically to discuss the possible reappearance of his former hairline.
The interruption appeared to form part of a private word challenge or bet between the pair.
Further evidence arrived towards the end of Tah’s own appearance, when he abruptly asked Germany press officer Franziska Wulle whether it was possible to buy Schweineohren—the German name for pig’s-ear pastries—in Munich.
Asked whether somebody had lost a bet, Tah smiled but refused to provide an answer.
“Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to reveal what that was about,” he said.
Germany’s press conference was intended to preview Sunday’s Nations League match against Greece in Augsburg, following a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in Klopp’s first game in charge.
Somewhere between questions about tactics, team selection and Germany’s new era, however, Klopp apparently found time to work the phrase “receding hairline” into the proceedings.
The exact rules of the apparent challenge remain private. Both men seemingly completed their assignments, leaving Greece to prepare for a German team whose manager now has additional personal motivation to ensure they perform.
