Dejan Kulusevski Reaches 12 Points Without Playing, Faces Driving Ban

Dejan Kulusevski has accumulated 12 points during his extended absence from football, although none of them have helped Tottenham.

The Spurs winger faces a possible six-month driving ban after pleading guilty to speeding at 43mph in a 30mph zone through London’s Limehouse Link tunnel.

The offence occurred in September 2025 and has taken Kulusevski’s licence to at least 12 penalty points, according to written submissions provided to the court by the Metropolitan Police.

Drivers who reach that total are ordinarily disqualified for six months under the totting-up system, although Kulusevski can ask magistrates to spare him if a ban would cause exceptional hardship.

The 26-year-old has therefore written to the court explaining why continued access to his car is important.

Kulusevski said he drives his young family to appointments and needs to remain available in case they require hospital treatment. He also cited his working hours as a professional footballer, explaining: “I return from an away game very late at night.”

This does not mean Kulusevski drives himself to Premier League away grounds while the remaining Tottenham squad travels without him. His argument concerns getting home after the team returns to London, when public transport may be limited.

The timing remains slightly unfortunate.

Kulusevski has not played a competitive match since Tottenham’s Europa League final victory over Manchester United in May 2025. A serious knee injury subsequently ruled him out for the entirety of last season and the 2026 World Cup.

He recently returned to first-team training after more than 15 months on the sidelines, making late journeys home from future away games a renewed possibility.

Kulusevski accepted that he had exceeded the speed limit, while noting that most of his offences had been only slightly above varying limits across London.

His case has been referred to a sentencing hearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 21 September, when it will be decided whether his family and employment circumstances justify avoiding a ban.

Kulusevski is now approaching a return to football, where collecting 12 points is generally treated as a more positive development.
