Ian Wright Says Arsenal’s Martinelli Plan Has Reached Everyone Except Martinelli

Arsenal appear to have reached a decision about Gabriel Martinelli’s future.

According to Ian Wright, somebody may now need to tell Gabriel Martinelli.

The Brazilian was left out of Arsenal’s squad for Friday night’s 3-0 Premier League win over Coventry City, having also missed the Community Shield victory over Manchester City.

Arsenal are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old, who has spent seven years at the club, while Galatasaray have already shown an interest in taking him away from the Emirates.

None of that particularly bothered Wright.

What did was his understanding of how much Martinelli himself had been told.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the Coventry game, Wright said the situation made him feel “uncomfortable” and argued that a player who had delivered important moments for Arsenal deserved greater respect if the club had decided it was time for him to leave.

Then he explained what he believed was happening behind the scenes.

“Not being involved in the squad, not being spoken to, he doesn’t know what’s going on,” Wright said.

When questioned over whether he knew that to be the case, rather than simply assuming it from Martinelli’s absence, Wright insisted that he did.

It leaves Martinelli in an unusual position.

The winger’s future has become a transfer story, clubs have been linked with signing him and Arsenal’s willingness to consider a sale has been widely reported. His absence from two consecutive matchday squads has provided another fairly substantial clue.

Wright’s concern is not that Arsenal might sell him. Football clubs make those decisions every summer, particularly when competition for places increases.

His concern is that Martinelli has apparently been left trying to interpret the same clues as everybody else.

Arsenal’s intentions are becoming increasingly difficult to miss.

According to Wright, Martinelli is still waiting for the update.
