EFL Reportedly Ready to Refuse Man City Entry If Premier League Kicks Them Out

Manchester City could reportedly be expelled from the Premier League before discovering that the Championship does not particularly want them either.
Ben Jacobs told talkSPORT that the English Football League would consider supporting the Premier League if City received the most severe available punishment for their financial breaches.
“If Manchester City are kicked out of the Premier League, the EFL plan to read the verdict,” Jacobs explained.
“They are willing, in solidarity, to back the Premier League position and try to keep Manchester City out of the EFL as well.”
City have reportedly been found guilty of almost all the charges brought against them, although their punishment has not yet been decided and the club are expected to appeal.
Possible sanctions range from a fine or points deduction to relegation or complete expulsion from the Premier League.
The distinction would be important.
A points deduction large enough to cause relegation would ordinarily send City into the Championship. Expulsion could leave the club requiring separate acceptance from the EFL, which operates the Championship, League One and League Two.
According to Jacobs, that acceptance may not be forthcoming.
He described the possibility of City being rejected by both organisations as a “doomsday scenario” that could remove them from the top four divisions of English football.
Nothing has been decided, and the outcome remains dependent upon the punishment, any appeal and the EFL’s eventual response.
City must therefore wait to discover whether they will receive a fine, lose points, suffer relegation or become the first club to be relegated without anybody agreeing where they have been relegated to.
