Mount Pleasant’s Trayvone Reid took an unusually slow route to the penalty spot, only to have his effort saved during a Caribbean Cup semi-final against Club Sando.
The Jamaican side were already 1-0 ahead in Wednesday’s first leg when Reid had the chance to double their advantage at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
Rather than approaching the ball at pace, Reid edged forward with a series of tiny, shuffling steps, stretching out the build-up while the goalkeeper waited on his line.
When he finally struck the ball, his low effort was stopped by Club Sando keeper Ragoo. The ball rebounded into play, leaving Mount Pleasant without the second goal their lengthy penalty routine had promised.
Footage of the attempt spread on social media, with the contrast between Reid’s elaborate approach and the eventual shot drawing attention.
Warner Brown had put Mount Pleasant ahead before the penalty, but the visitors were unable to protect their lead after the break.
Daniel David equalised for Club Sando, and the match finished 1-1 despite both teams threatening to find a winner.
The result leaves the semi-final to be settled in the return leg in Kingston on 22 October, with a place in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup final at stake.
