Graham Potter Turns Pilates Post Into Review of Former Employers
Graham Potter has turned a peaceful Instagram post about Pilates into an informal review of his managerial career and at least one former employer.
The Sweden manager shared photographs from a Pilates session on Thursday, presenting the sort of calm, controlled activity generally associated with posture, breathing and not arguing with football supporters online.
One commenter suggested Potter might prove better at Pilates than football management.
Potter replied: “I’ll try not to do Pilates in a dysfunctional place and I will be OK.”
He did not identify the dysfunctional place in question. That left Chelsea and West Ham, the two clubs that dismissed him following difficult spells, available for consideration.
Potter established his reputation during three successful years at Brighton before joining Chelsea in September 2022. He was dismissed seven months later after 31 matches and subsequently returned to management with West Ham in January 2025, where he lasted until September.
Neither appointment produced the outcome anticipated when he arrived. Potter’s comment suggested the environments may have contributed, although Instagram did not provide sufficient room for a full structural review of either club.
The conversation continued when another user asked whether he had minded the money he received from his previous jobs. Potter answered: “Absolutely not.”
A West Ham supporter then told him: “You got us relegated, you mug.” Potter responded with two laughing emojis, completing a concise three-part assessment of working conditions, compensation and accountability.
Pilates is intended to strengthen the core while improving balance and controlled movement. Potter’s session appears to have delivered enough immediate benefits for him to begin counter-attacking directly from the comments section.
The original post remained about exercise. Beneath it, however, Potter had conducted an unofficial exit interview covering two former jobs without naming either employer.
He may have gone to Pilates to improve his flexibility. His position on his former working environments appears fully set.
