Jürgen Klopp’s first day as Germany manager included something most new managers don’t usually mention.

During his unveiling, Klopp made it clear he’ll happily walk away if his family is not respected by the media.

“If you behave badly and don’t leave my family in peace, then I’ll be gone,” he said, adding that he’d leave without asking for any compensation.

It’s not every day a manager starts a new job by explaining the circumstances in which he’ll quit.

To be fair, Klopp wasn’t threatening to walk away because of results.

He was setting a boundary.

The former Liverpool boss pointed to the treatment of previous Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann and England boss Thomas Tuchel as examples of the scrutiny he wants to avoid.

Germany have appointed Klopp to rebuild the national team after another disappointing World Cup campaign, with his first match coming against the Netherlands in September.

For now, the football can wait.

Klopp’s first message was simple.

Respect the family. Everything else can be discussed.
