Gabriel Submits Fallon d’Floor Nomination Against Brighton
Clip: X
Gabriel Magalhaes submitted an early entry for the Fallon d’Floor award during Arsenal’s Premier League defeat at Brighton.
The incident occurred shortly before half-time at the Amex Stadium, with Brighton already leading 1-0.
Gabriel became involved in a routine confrontation near the touchline before falling dramatically to the ground following limited contact from his opponent.
The Arsenal defender remained on the turf as though the incident required considerably more investigation than the available footage appeared to support.
It did not take long for the clip to be presented online as a Fallon d’Floor nomination, football’s unofficial prize for achievements in the increasingly competitive field of unnecessary collapsing.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, it was not their most significant problem of the afternoon.
Pascal Gross had given Brighton the lead before Charalampos Kostoulas doubled the advantage shortly after Gabriel’s performance. Chema Andres added a third during the second half as Brighton completed a convincing 3-0 victory.
Arsenal left the Amex with their first defeat of the season. Gabriel at least departed with a possible individual nomination.
The voting committee may wish to examine the slow-motion replay, although it is difficult to identify precisely which part caused him to fall over.
